I met 3 out of 6 of them, which is pretty good. My etsy store never got revamped because I got really busy, and I wasn't really more social either for the same reason. On to 2009's, which are nothing spectacular since I have enough on my plate as it is.

1. Do not get any moving vehicle violations. (2008 not such a good year for this.)
2. See 15 babies born.
3. Pass all the classes I am planning to take.
4. Keep in touch with friends. My goal is to call one person I have sort of lost touch with every month. (Attention out of state people: be expecting a call!)
5. Meet my ambitious monthly savings goal.
6. Turn off the TV before I get really tired so I can read some every night.
7. Finish my 40 before 40 list before I turn 30. (Finish making the list that is, not doing everything on it.)

Christmas Meme!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper, hands down. I enjoy wrapping presents (possibly because I used to get paid like a quarter per package to wrap my mom's which can really add up). I also enjoy unwrapping presents and I think it is much more enjoyable to unwrap a gift than simply reaching into a bag. Also, you get to shake the box and try to guess what it is, with bags, you just look inside right away. I don't like the waste that comes with wrapping paper, I use newspaper sometimes, and reuse paper I get on gifts that is in good condition.

2. Real tree or Artificial?
Real, although I do not put up a tree at my house. Where would I put it? I am simply too busy and my house too messy for my own tree right now, but I always help my parents pick out theirs and put it up.

3. Why are you willing to answer these questions?
I am tired of writing a paper.

4. When do you take the tree down?
There are 12 days of Christmas!!! I have pretty rigid beliefs when it comes to Christmas decorations: they should not go up before thanksgiving, the tree really shouldn't go up until mid-December and it shouldn't come down until after January 6th (12th day of Christmas, Epiphany)

5. Do you like eggnog?
Sort of. I usually have some silk nog every year, but I like it in small doses.

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
Umm....I was surprised by that Nintendo and the little trampoline was fun...funny how I don't really remember the presents.

7. Hardest person to buy for?
My dad.

8. Easiest person to buy for?
My mom, she likes nice stuff and girls are just way easier all around, you can't get away with giving a boy fancy soaps and lotions most of the time!

9. Do you have a nativity scene?
No, no decorations at all really, see above about the tree.

10. Do you send your card by mail or e-mail?
No cards. Waste of whatever.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
Probably these sweater skirt sets I got from my aunt and grandma in 6th grade. They were fantastically '80s and sparkly and just awful, would have been ok if I was 8, but not 12. I only wore one of the sweaters once when all my other clothes were dirty and I got made fun of! Probably would be a great find for a college kid at the thrift store now.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Harry Potter (If they aren't Christmas movies, why are they always playing them at Christmas??)

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Whenever I see something that screams someone at me I get it and save it for Christmas or their birthday, if I don't have anything I wait until the last minute, just hoping something will jump at me.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Yes and I'm sure I will again.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Corn and Beans and chex mix....and Leftovers (which is when it is acceptable to put chex mix on top of your Christmas dinner, not at the table.)

16. Lights on the tree?
Yes, if I had one.

17. Favorite Christmas song?
Santa Claus is a Black Man

18.Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Travel, but not far.

19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer’s?
Absolutely

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Um, no tree, no topper.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Both, and more. The more rounds of present opening the better, and that goes double for Christmas dinners.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Traffic, and working late.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
I like miniature knitted things

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner?
Favorite what?

25. I got it last year near the end of the summer. Isn't it pretty? Today I rode it to work for the first time this year. I've decided to set a goal for myself to ride my bike 92 days this year (no, it's not random, it's 1/4 of the days in a year). It shouldn't be too hard, but I think it will make me ride it more than if I didn't have a goal. 2 down, 90 to go.
Also, it seems like a lot of people are starting diets and I'd like to loose a little belly fat, so maybe I should start one too. Diets for me really just involve being more aware of what I am eating (yesterday, being on a diet meant picking most of the breading off of my onion rings.) Anyhow, I decided to look up how many calories I should ideally be getting per day. You always think that 2000 is like the normal, average amount. Well, I only get 1400! Harumph!

Stash, what stash?

So, I've always thought that I don't have much of a stash. The current project basket. For all on the needles projects, recently finished projects and their leftover yarn and several random skeins that just got thrown in there when I was cleaning the living room.
2. Basket of mostly chunky yarns that I assembled together when I was inspired to make some funky hats this winter. (Number of funky hats made so far: zero)
4. Yarn that was selected from stash #5 because it was deemed 'superior' or 'inspiring' and that something was going to be made out of it "soon". The selection now seems quite random and I'm going to recombine it with the big box.
5. Project leftovers (mostly of usable quantities) and inferior yarn. This is the box that I have previously thought of as my stash.

In other news, a bird has made its nest right outside my sewing table window! It's really the perfect spot, very sheltered, what a smart little bird!

It's Dyeing Weather Again

So this blog was supposed to be about stuff I make, right? My excuse, I was busy busy, then there was Christmas, then I was busy, and then I was lazy. Anyhow, I have no pictures, because I am lame, but here are my resolutions:
1. For the first 15 days of January there will be no sewing, but cleaning and organizing instead.
* ok, so I've already broken this one because yesterday I sewed a bag for myself....and I've kind of lost momentum on the cleaning....but I'm having a party in February and that should motivate me.
2. Get a midwifery website up. This is a January goal.
3. Get 6 midwifery clients this year. I think the website will help a lot with this.
4. ReVamp my etsy store. This is a March goal. I never really worked on the etsy store, but I want to get a banner thing and get really good pictures for each of the summer skirt designs, so the store will have more of a unified look.
5. Be more social. I think I have this goal every year. Hermiting myself away is my default mode.
6. Ride my bike more. Should be easier, now that I have a bike.
My Summer Vacation

So, me and Erik went to North Carolina for an extended weekend. Stopped at some yarn stores and vegan eateries on the way yum yum. So we get to our destination, Frisco, and set up in a lovely campground. Bellies still full of frozen custard and kinda tired, we go to sleep early....and then wake up 5 hours later in a puddle of water. This is the beginning of the 24 hours of unfortunate vacationing. Anyhow, we move to the car and sleep the rest of the night there. Fortunately, we are still very psyched about being on vacation and all, so we get up and head for the beach. The beach! It is the real destination of this trip! Yay! It's not exactly sunny outside, but the water is warm. It is also very windy. Isn't it always windy at the beach? Sure. So I play in the waves, it's fun...until my ears start to hurt. My poor sensitive ears. I am protecting them with earplugs and a scarf, but the wind...it manages to get inside somehow. So I sit on the beach with a towel draped over my head to protect my ears and play in the sand. There's not many people at the beach. Go in again, get knocked down by a couple waves, come out again, Erik and I build a sandcastle. I like the beach. It sucks that my ears hurt. Will Sarah never be able to have fun swimming in the ocean again? We go for a walk, come back, go in the water again. Then the officials tell us to get out of the water. The waves are getting too high. Bummer. On the way back to the car we get pelted by sand. Attacked. The beach is attacking us! It hurts. A lot of sand gets blown into the car. We go back to the campsite. No one else is camping. Hmm, maybe because it's Sunday. We dry our blankets out. Listen to the radio. Oh, a tropical storm is coming. Well.....hmmm.....I guess that would explain a lot of things. So, we upgraded to a little cabin so we wouldn't have to sleep in puddles and possibly be carried off by the wind. That settled, we set out to have ourselves a fabulous dinner that we had promised ourselves since we'd PB&Jd for lunch. We'd seen a copy of the menu for this place, they had some lovely pasta thing with mushrooms and capers and artichokes and tempura on top...it sounded sooo yummy. Sounded. Not Tasted. They were closed. As was nearly everything else. Seriously, the only place open was Bubba's BBQ and you know how excited I was about that. Oh, well, we had a roof over our heads, some mediocre cornbread in our bellies, and super scrabble, it could have been a lot worse. And the next day, the sun was out, no sign of rain, we managed to find a beach with public showers so we wouldn't have to be covered in salt and sand all day and we spent a lovely morning-early afternoon at the beach! Smaller waves, cooler water and a LOT less wind!! No achy ears!! Sand castle with an actual moat and everything. Then we went off to explore the desert. Well, it looks like the desert anyways, except for there's a lot of footprints. It's really a giant sand dune, and it's really bright with all the light reflecting off the sand, which is why we look kinda funny in the picture, because we are trying to look at the camera without going blind. Anyhow, then we stopped in Asheville for the day on the way home and went to some nice yarn stores and tried to get vegan yummyness, although my top 3 choices were all closed. Rats! I did have some channa saag that rivaled Stitar's (in Nashville) for best ever, so that almost made up for it. Anyhow, a quick vacation, but fun and restful and thoroughly vacationlike.

Composed Mitts

These are colors I would not have picked out myself, but luckily there were a lot of partial skeins of Blue Sky Alpaca Sport lying around, so I only had one color to pick out and it had to match all the others. They asked a woman to cover up while she was nursing, and they persisted even when informed of the law protecting public breastfeeding (which they were breaking by asking her to put a blanket over the baby). As a result of this there will be a Nurse-Out on Saturday, September 8, 2007 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at 4009 Nicholasville Road (in front of Applebee's) in Lexington. Bring the family, make signs and educate the public! I give the baby bobbi bear pattern four stars, unique construction, practically no seaming, and hugable! I can't wait to make and unmake a magic yarn ball!!

1. What is/are your craft(s), & how long have you been doing it/them?
I have been knitting for 4 years, actively sewing for 7, dyeing on and off for 7 years, I do a bit of screenprinting and tinker with spinning (wheels, I don't care for drop spindles)

2. Are you a vegan, vegetarian, veg-curious, veg-friendly or other?
I am a vegan.

3. What is/are your favorite color(s)? Do you particularly dislike any color(s)?
I do not like pastels, and black white and grey are not my favorites. Other than that I mostly like all colors, particularly rich/saturated ones. I do find blue a bit boring sometimes, and prefer the red end of purple.

4. Do you have any allergies (such as pets, foods, fibers or cigarette smoke)?
I have no allergies, but do not like cigarette smoke.

5. Do you have any companion animals? If so, name(s) and type(s)?
I have 2 cats, Scotty and Peanut.

6. Do you collect anything?
I try not to, though I am considering starting a pop-up book collection, and maybe wind up toys because they are so neat!

7. Do you have a favorite vegan food, snack or dish?
I like mushrooms, cherries, blueberries, chocolate

8. What are some of your favorite/least favorite tastes/flavors?
I like sweet, chocolate, savory, thai, indian, italian, medeterranean

9. What tools/supplies/accessories for your craft(s) are you wishing you had but don't? Also, what do you have TOO many of?
I'm not really wishing for anything in particular. I'd appreciate something I can't get at my LYS. I have plenty of needles and plenty of fabric and I don't want any mainstream magazines.

10. What type of handmade item would tickle your fancy? What don't you like?
I generally don't like crocheted garments. I like useful things. Unless they are supercute, in which case the cuteness makes up for the uselessness. Handmade things in general tickle my fancy.

11. Is there anything else you would like your pal to know about you?
I like recycled things and I also like environmentally friendly things. I mostly sew with hemp/organic cotton or recycled fabrics, though there is plenty of other fabric in my stash from when my resolve was not so strong. With yarn, I prefer natural fibers, I do not like synthetics and I do not like novelty yarn.

12. What scents do you like/dislike?
I dislike almost all artificial scents. Most natural scents (essential oils, spices, etc. ) are fine.

13. Do you prefer fall or Halloween or some other Autumn theme?
Halloween. It's the best holiday.

14. Just for fun - tell your favorite Halloween or Autumn related memory.
Halloween never seems to live up to my expectations. One that did was during my first year of college, in New Orleans. I went downtown with a fairy, a hawaiian girl, a nurse and someone just out of the shower. I was a tablecloth. Nothing in particular stands out in my mind besides a long kiss on bourbon street, I just remember it was a fun night.

Sarah's Wish List

Amazon doesn't have everything, so I decided just to make a list here, and I'll update it every now and then, it's in order of most wanted.
